The Chapman School of Seamanship is located near Stuart, Florida on the southeast coast of the state, 40 miles north of West Palm Beach, 110 miles north of Miami. The School's waterfront campus occupies 8 acres on the Manatee Pocket in the village of Port Salerno about 3 nautical miles from the St. Lucie Inlet which opens to the Atlantic Ocean.The campus classrooms are air conditioned for year round comfort. There are classrooms for instruction in subjects such as navigation, workshops for training in marine electronics, boat and engine repair, and computer labs for licensing and certification programs.
The School maintains a fleet of power and sailing vessels for teaching practical, underway boating skills. A maritime reference library and artifacts museum is maintained on campus for student use.
The campus also has air conditioned dormitory style apartments which include a kitchen, bath, bedroom, dining area, living room and covered porch. A laundry room is available for student use and there is a large swimming pool with sun-deck and covered patio.
As a student, you can take advantage of all the area has to offer for recreation and relaxation. Stuart, "the sailfish capital of the world," and the nearby Atlantic provide opportunities for sport fishing. Nearby Lake Okeechobee offers bass fishing. Jensen Beach to the North and Jupiter to the South are a haven for loggerhead turtle nesting. There are also wonderful restaurants, local theaters, beautiful beaches, and other attractions for your enjoyment. No matter what part of the country you live in, we're sure you'll find our part of the country to your liking . . . and then some.
