EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
CPC 200 is a powerboat
handling immersion course designed specifically for those
who wish to improve their close quarters maneuvering
skills. This 12 hour, hands on program is conducted
onboard one of Chapman School’s training vessels by
professional, US Coast Guard licensed captains who use
Chapman’s proven “Learn at the Helm”™ method of teaching.
The skills learned in this class are fundamental
requirements for the competent boater.
It is designed as a
stand alone program. Successful completion of CPC 200
earns the student certification on either a twin or single
inboard vessel or an outboard/stern drive vessel. This
valuable program is highly regarded by both experienced and
novice boaters alike.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The 2 days / 12 hours
of underway instruction will be held on a vessel that is either
:
I/O or Outboard; Twin or Single Inboard.
Your course begins with a dockside vessel
orientation and pre-departure inspection followed by close
quarters maneuvering practice including:

Docking and Undocking in a protected slip, bow
and
stern first.

360 degree turns in tight quarters.

Coming alongside a facing pier (such as a
fuel dock), both port and starboard to.
-
Backing down 100 yards in a narrow channel
-
Docking bow and stern first with only one
engine operable.

Docking and undocking using springlines.
Instructors will also cover:

Vessel refueling safety procedures.
-
Proper use of VHF marine radio.
-
Understanding and using Navigational Aids
and basic Rules of the Road.
ADMISSION
Persons attending this program must be at least 15 years of age or older and
have a serious desire to learn.
Each student must submit a
Registration Form completed and signed (by a parent or
guardian if under 18). Students must have an official photo ID on the first
day of class. Each student is required to furnish his/her
own deck shoes.
Each class requires a minimum of three (3)
students. Should you be the only
student in the class requesting a particular vessel type, such
as IO, you will receive private hands-on underway instruction on
a six-hour schedule.
CERTIFICATION
A Chapman School certificate of completion is
awarded to students who complete the course. This certificate may qualify
a boat owner for marine insurance discounts.
Those students seeking CPC 200 Certification must
pass a boat handling skills test which will be given at the
conclusion of the program.

The Registration Form must be completed and signed (by a parent or
guardian if the applicant is younger than 18) and returned
to the Chapman School along with the $150 non-refundable deposit.

Tuition balance is due
in full 10 days prior to the start of class.

Tuition includes
books, supplies, and laboratory fees.

Tuition does not
include housing, board, or transportation.

in U.S. currency only.

REFUND POLICY
-
If the application is
not accepted by the Chapman School, all payments made by the
applicant will be refunded.

If cancellation is
requested within three (3) business days after signing the
Registration
Form, all payments made by the applicant
will be refunded.

If cancellation is
requested more than three (3) business days after signing the
Registration
Form, but before the beginning of
classroom instruction, the applicant is obligated for the
non-refundable tuition deposit,
which may be applied to a future boating course within one
year.

For the student
terminating training after the beginning of the course, the
student is obligated for the full amount of the contract
price.

Applicable refunds are made within thirty
(30) days.
STUDENT HOUSING
Description
Campus housing consists of dormitory apartments. Each unit
contains a bedroom, convertible living room/bedroom, bath,
kitchenette and a screened porch. The number of students per
unit during this program is a maximum of two. All units are
air-conditioned, fully furnished and equipped with refrigerator,
countertop range and cooking utensils. Housing is offered on a
space available basis. Sorry, no pets.

For a second or third person in the party add $10 per
night/per person. Housing fee includes utilities.

Security deposit is
due with the Registration Form and the housing fee is
due 10 days prior to the start of class to reserve
accommodations.

If a student cannot
attend the class in which he or she is registered, housing
fees and deposits are refundable.
-
Once a student moves
into the facilities, no fees will be refunded except the
$50 security deposit, and that within 30 days after the
inspection of the vacated room.
-
In the event any
student does damage to the accommodations, he or she will
be responsible for the replacement cost and labor required
to repair the damaged Chapman School property.
-
In the event the
damage exceeds $50, the student will be responsible for the
additional costs of repair.
