Program
Total: 2 Days - 12 hours

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The objective of this course is to provide boaters with a basic understanding of the theory and operation of marine radar equipment.

  • Practical applications are taught in both the classroom and aboard one of Chapman’s large twin diesel training vessels.

  • Minimum class size is 3 and the maximum is 5 students.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Day One - 9:00 to 4:00

Radar Theory - 3 hours (Classroom)

  • Radar Theory

  • Radar Operations

Radar Lab  - 3 hours (Onboard vessel)
Students will utilize the theory taught in the morning class and apply it by setting up the radar, tuning it, and then completing some hands-on exercises aboard one of Chapman School’s large twin diesel inboard training vessels.

 

Day Two - 9:00 to 4:00

Prep Vessel
Students will attend to a full pre-departure vessel checkout prior to leaving the docks.
 

Underway Exercises to include:

  • Target Identification

  • Collision Avoidance

  • Navigation

  • Anchoring/Lunch

  • 10-20 question quiz

  • Graduation & Certification

CERTIFICATION

A Chapman School certificate of completion is awarded to students who complete the course.

ADMISSION

Persons attending the 2 day program must be at least 16 years of age or older and in good health, submit a properly completed and signed Registration Form (by a parent of guardian if the applicant is younger than 18) and have an official photo ID on the first day of class.

This course requires a minimum of three (3) students and has a maximum of five (5) students.

Students are required to furnish their own deck/boat shoes and are required to provide their own lunch while onboard.

TUITION & FEES

  • Tuition Dep....$150.00    Tuition Bal....$300.00    Tuition Total....$450.00

  • The Registration Form must be completed and signed (by a  parent or guardian if the applicant is younger than 18), and returned to the Chapman School along with the $150 non-refundable deposit.

  • Tuition balance is due in full 10 days prior to the start of class.

  • Tuition includes books, supplies, and laboratory fees.

  • Tuition does not include housing, board, or transportation.

  • All costs are payable in U.S. currency only.

  • The Chapman School accepts Discover, Visa, or MasterCard

REFUND POLICY

  • If the application is not accepted by the Chapman School, all payments made by the applicant will be refunded.

  • If cancellation is requested within three (3) business days after signing the Registration Form, all payments made by the applicant will be refunded.

  • If cancellation is requested more than three (3) business days after signing the Registration Form, but before the beginning of classroom instruction, the applicant is obligated for the non-refundable tuition deposit, which may be applied to a future boating course within one year.

  • For the student terminating training after the beginning of the course, the student is obligated for the full amount of the contract price.

  • Applicable refunds are made within thirty (30) days.

STUDENT HOUSING

Description
Campus housing consists of dormitory apartments. Each unit contains a bedroom, convertible living room/bedroom, bath, kitchenette and a screened porch. The number of students per unit during this program is a maximum of two. All units are air-conditioned, fully furnished and equipped with refrigerator, countertop range and cooking utensils.  Housing is offered on a space available basis. Sorry, no pets.

Security Deposit....$50.00    Housing Fee....$100.00    Housing Total....$150.00
For a second or third person in the party add $10 per night/per person.  Housing fee includes utilities.

Housing Security Deposit & Refund

  • Security deposit is due with the Registration Form and the housing fee is due 10 days prior to the start of class to reserve accommodations.

  • If a student cannot attend the class in which he or she is registered, housing fees and deposits are refundable.

  • Once a student moves into the facilities, no fees will be refunded except the $50 security deposit, and that within 30 days after the inspection of the vacated room.

  • In the event any student does damage to the accommodations,  he or she will be responsible for the replacement cost and labor required to repair the damaged Chapman School property.

  • In the event the damage exceeds $50, the student will be responsible for the additional costs of repair.
