EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

To teach basic
fishing skills required to understand the operations in
the cockpit area of a sport fishing vessel.

To introduce
knots, lines, tackle, rigs, baits, lures and other
equipment used in the charter boat, sport fishing
industry.

To get underway
onboard a sport fishing vessel and apply what was
learned in class.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Introduction to
Knots & Ties (3 hours) -
To be successful in rigging baits
and tackle a sport fishing enthusiast must learn several basic
knots and ties. Your instructor will first demonstrate the
correct knots and ties with large soft lines. Once you
have mastered each bend, then they will be retied with small
Monofilament and Power-Pro.
Introduction to Terminal Tackle & Equipment (2 hours) -
Students will be taught
the correct use of Wire, Mono filament and Power Pro for
rigging. In addition, they will learn how to use most of the
equipment found onboard sport fishing vessels such as Pliers,
Hooks, De-boners, Rods and Reels, Gaff Hooks, Teasers, Ice
Picks, Sinkers, Needles, Gloves, Kites, Knives, Soft wire,
safety belts and a variety of other sport fishing equipment.
Proper Use of
Tackle (6 hours) - Students will
learn the correct way to rig Live and Dead baits such as Mullet,
Ballyhoo, Squid and Shrimp along with artificials such as
spoons, feathers and many others. These baits will later
be used to try and catch several of the sport fish species in
our area. Other equipment that the student will learn how
to use: Sabike rigs, out riggers, and down riggers.
Underway Onboard
a Sports Fishing Vessel (8 hours) -
Students will apply lessons learned in an 8 hour,
underway, offshore sport fishing trip. All fish caught
will either be released or used for consumption. In the
event weather does not allow us to fish offshore, an inshore
voyage will be used to demonstrate and practice the procedure
learned in class.
CERTIFICATION
A Chapman School
certificate of completion is awarded to students who complete
the course.
ADMISSION
Persons attending the 3 day program must be at least 18 years of age or older and in good
health. Students must have an official photo ID on the first
day of class. Each student is required to furnish his/her
own deck shoes.
This course requires a minimum of three students.
In the event that there are less than 3 students registered, the
class will be canceled and students will have the option to move
to another date or receive a full refund. We recommend that you
purchase transferable or refundable travel tickets when taking
this course.

The Enrollment
Application must be completed, signed, and returned
to the Chapman School along with the $200 non-refundable deposit.

Tuition balance is due
in full 10 days prior to the start of class.

REFUND POLICY

If the application is
not accepted by the Chapman School, all payments made by the
applicant will be refunded.

If cancellation is
requested within three (3) business days after signing the
Enrollment Application, all payments made by the applicant
will be refunded.

If cancellation is
requested more than three (3) business days after signing the
Enrollment Application, but before the beginning of
classroom instruction, the applicant is obligated for the
non-refundable tuition deposit,
which may be applied to a future boating course within one
year.

For the student
terminating training after the beginning of the course, the
student is obligated for the full amount of the contract
price.

Applicable refunds are made within thirty
(30) days.
STUDENT HOUSING
Description
Campus housing consists of dormitory apartments. Each unit
contains a bedroom, convertible living room/bedroom, bath,
kitchenette and a screened porch. The number of students per
unit during this program is a maximum of two. All units are
air-conditioned, fully furnished and equipped with refrigerator,
countertop range and cooking utensils. Housing is offered on a
space available basis. Sorry, no pets.

Security deposit is
due with the Enrollment Application and the housing fee is
due 10 days prior to the start of class to reserve
accommodations.

If a student cannot
attend the class in which he or she is registered, housing
fees and deposits are refundable.
-
Once a student moves
into the facilities, no fees will be refunded except the
$50 security deposit, and that within 30 days after the
inspection of the vacated room.
-
In the event any
student does damage to the accommodations, he or she will
be responsible for the replacement cost and labor required
to repair the damaged Chapman School property.
-
In the event the
damage exceeds $50, the student will be responsible for the
additional costs of repair.
