EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
This course is a 30 hour,
five day program for students 11 to 17 years of age. It is designed
to:

Teach young men and
women the skills required to operate a small power vessel.

Impart to them the
importance of safety, environmental responsibility and the dangers
of boat operations while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Prepare the student to
take the Florida State Boating Basics Exam.

Minimum class size is 3
and the maximum is 12 students.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Seamanship, Safety
& Environmental Concerns
-
Proper use of safety equipment such as
life vests, survival suits and life rafts.
-
Navigational Rules and Legal
Requirements.
-
Preparation of a vessel for getting
underway.
-
Practice in basic knots, bends and
hitches.
-
Practice in line handling techniques.
-
Environmental concerns.
Pool Demo - Students will practice safety equipment usage
such as:

Life vests
-
Survival suits
-
Life rafts
Hands-On
Instruction -
Students
will get
to:

Dock and undock
-
Maneuver in close quarters
-
Anchor
-
Practice over-board maneuvers.

Line Handling
ADMISSION
Persons attending the 5 day program must be
between ages 11 and 17 and in good
health. Each student is required to furnish his/her
own deck shoes.
CERTIFICATION
A Chapman School
certificate of completion is awarded to students who complete
the course. Students will receive reading assignments and
lectures to help prepare them to pass the State of Florida
Boating Basics Exam.

The Enrollment
Application must be completed and signed (by a parent or
guardian if the applicant is younger than 18) and returned
to the Chapman School along with the $50 non-refundable deposit.

Tuition balance is due
in full 10 days prior to the start of class.
-
Tuition includes
books, supplies, and laboratory fees.
-
Tuition does not
include housing, board, or transportation.

All costs are payable
in U.S. currency only.

REFUND POLICY
-
If the application is
not accepted by the Chapman School, all payments made by the
applicant will be refunded.
-
If cancellation is
requested within three (3) business days after signing the
Registration Form, all payments made by the applicant
will be refunded.
-
If cancellation is
requested more than three (3) business days after signing the
Registration Form, but before the beginning of
classroom instruction, the applicant is obligated for the
non-refundable tuition deposit,
which may be applied to a future boating course within one
year.

For the student
terminating training after the beginning of the course, the
student is obligated for the full amount of the contract
price.

Applicable refunds are made within thirty
(30) days.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Upon completion of Summer Boating For Youth, you may wish to continue your boating education with
Advanced Summer Boating For Youth, or Power Boat Handling (Age limits apply - See course brochure for details).
