EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
This course is a 30 hour, five day program for students 14 to 17 years of age. It is designed
to:
- Build on the
skills acquired in the Summer Basic and Summer Advanced
programs.
- Teach young men
and women the skills required to safely plan and navigate a
coastal offshore voyage.
- Prepare the
student to qualify for Chapman School’s Summer Voyager
Certificate.
- Minimum class size
is 3 and the maximum is 6 students.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Seamanship, Safety
& Environmental Concerns
-
Review Advanced Navigational Rules..
-
Review Navigation, chart reading, dead reckoning, compass, time
speed and distance, latitude and longitude.

Basic marine electronics.
-
Line handling including spring lines, docking and undocking.
Voyage Planning
- Students will prepare for the voyage covering the following
topics:
- Rescue techniques
- Safety equipment
- Survival at sea
Hands-On
Instruction -
Students will train on a power vessel and will complete the
following hands on training:
- 4
Hours of boat handing to sharpen skills prior to undertaking
the voyage

Undertake a six hour voyage outside the St. Lucie Inlet to
Fort Pierce and return

Troubleshooting underway problems

Electronics & vessel systems
while underway
ADMISSION
Persons attending the 5 day program must be
between ages 14 and 17 and in good health. Students need
basic math skills and completion of Summer Boating for Youth. Each student is required to furnish his/her
own deck shoes.
CERTIFICATION
A Chapman School certificate of completion is
awarded to students who complete the course.
The Summer Voyage students will also receive a letter certifying
completion of 2 days of documented sea time.

The Enrollment
Application must be completed and signed (by a parent or
guardian if the applicant is younger than 18) and returned
to the Chapman School along with the $50 non-refundable deposit.

Tuition balance is due
in full 10 days prior to the start of class.

Tuition includes
books, supplies, and laboratory fees.

Tuition does not
include housing, board, or transportation.

in U.S. currency only.

REFUND POLICY

If the application is
not accepted by the Chapman School, all payments made by the
applicant will be refunded.

If cancellation is
requested within three (3) business days after signing the
Registration Form, all payments made by the applicant
will be refunded.

If cancellation is
requested more than three (3) business days after signing the
Registration Form, but before the beginning of
classroom instruction, the applicant is obligated for the
non-refundable tuition deposit,
which may be applied to a future boating course within one
year.

For the student
terminating training after the beginning of the course, the
student is obligated for the full amount of the contract
price.

Applicable refunds are made within thirty
(30) days.
